A woman shared a story on Reddit’s r/AITA subreddit. The Redditor explained that something frustrating happened on the local restaurant where she went with her husband. The woman explained that her husband was a regular of the place and he also said that they should tip the bartender good.
“I work a tipped base customer service job as well so that was fine by me. I get it.” the Redditor shared. They decided to sat on the bar, and from that moment on, the bartender only talked with her husband. “She wasn’t rude to me but she just didn’t really acknowledge my presence. Only asked husband if food was ok. Only asked husband if he needed box when his plate was practically empty and mine was half full.”
“Tab was about $60. I left that plus a $30 tip. All cash. I work for tips, my husbands a regular, we’ll both be back, and even if she gave me weird vibes, I always had a drink and my food was great.”
After that, the event frustrated the Redditor happened. As the bartender received the tip, she leaned on the bar, turned her back to the Redditor, and said to her husband loudly, “Thank you so much for doing that! It was so nice!”
OP was really annoyed with this action, as she decided to say, “I paid the tab and I tipped you. You’re welcome,” in a sarcastic tonne. The bartender walked back and she never looked at the Redditor.
On their way back home, while they were in the car, OP’s husband explained that what his wife did was wrong, and that she embarrassed him.
OP concluded as, “He thinks it’s just because she assumed he paid when I did. He’s technically right but I work in the same environment. I always treat people the same…not just the person who I assume paid and/or tipped.”
