Eric and Elly were married for 12 years. Despite they had their problems in marriage, Elly thought this too shall pass. But one day, Eric wanted some space to think somethings in their marriage.
He needed to clear his mind. He packed and left. Elly was devastated as she never expected her husband to do something like this.
He stated that he will sleep in his car for some time. Elly couldn’t believe until she found out the truth, since she was afraid for her husband’s wellbeing.
Elly also thought that if Eric was cheating on her. She asked that she can give him some space in the home too, but Eric refused, “It’s not about us. But this is important to me, okay?”
Eric would leave the home after dinner for ten days, and return before sunrise. He was looking devastated.
As she couldn’t stand waiting, she decided to follow him. He went to the local park, and turned off the engine. Elly was watching him from her car. Eric was in his car, covered in a blanket, and was on his phone constantly.
For the next few nights, Elly followed him and things were same. He would stay in his car until sun was rising. But why he was doing that?
Then the next night, Elly tapped on the window and Eric was startled. He then unlocked the door, and let Elly in. “Why are you doing this? Be honest, are you seeing someone? Is that why you’re here? Are you afraid that the kids would see or find out?”
“I didn’t want you to know,” he said softly. “Because I just didn’t want to worry you. But I’ve been out here recording bedtime stories for the kids.”
Then he revealed the truth. Eric was diagnosed with cancer. It was terminal, and in the time he got left in this world, he wanted to do something for his children.
Elly gasped. She started to cry as she hugged to her husband.
“I didn’t want to put that on you,” he said. “I wanted you to be normal around me, and with the kids. But I also wanted to make something for the kids to remember me by.”
Then Elly convinced him after she insisted on an experimental treatment for a week. The doctors gave Eric four months, but Eric was able to fight the cancer for a year. Sadly, he lost the fight, but he stayed more than what doctors thought.
