Jen and Ben were together for the last eight months. They were madly in love with each other and Ben was always a gentleman against Jen. He would make her feel special whenever they were together.
They were from different backgrounds. Jen was coming from a rich family while Ben was working hard for the life he had today.
But Jen was happy with the cheap things Ben would buy for her or simple things he would do for her. She was not after monetary possessions as she was happy with how she was, and with who she was.
But Ben was nervous that he was not enough for Jen. One day, she talked with him and explained that she was not seeking wealth. She was happy with him and who he is. That comforted Ben.
One day, Ben stated that his friends from High School was reuniting and that he was invited. Then, Ben asked Jen to come with him. She was happy that Ben invited her to a gathering of old friends. That was showing her that she had a big place in her life.
But things didn’t go as she hoped for. When they gathered, things started great. Ben was having a great time, as his friends were.
Then, Ben’s character slowly changed. As he never did before, he ordered expensive things. He then said something, which was not good for Jen. “And let me tell you, I spare no expense when it comes to spoiling my lady here. She doesn’t need to lift a finger; I make sure of that.”
As the night went on, he kept ordering. When the time for paying the bill arrived, he texted to Jen. He wanted her to pass her card under the table so he could pay it.
Jen wasn’t sure what to feel. She texted back that she surely would, and gave her card to him. Ben was smiling proudly. Then Jen excused herself to the restroom, and started to watch the table from afar. The card was an old gift card which had no money in it.
As Ben couldn’t pay the bill, he went red. He was panicking, and didn’t know what to do. He was looking for Jen, but he couldn’t see her. She left her there, and never contacted him again. She was sure of herself that she can’t be with someone who is afraid of his true self.
She paid the bill, and left.
