Amy and Jack were together for 15 years. They had a daughter, Emily, who was the apple of their eye. They were a great family in Jack’s eyes. But lately, approximately for the last six months, Amy was withdrawing herself from her family.
Jack tried to talk with his wife, but Amy would only say that she needed some fresh air. But for months she was saying that. Jack wanted a more solid answer.
“I can’t, not yet…” Amy said while she started to cry. Then she turned towards the window, and stayed silent. Only cried.
On the next day, when Jack returned from work, Emily was with him, since her father took him when he was returning from the work. But Amy was not at home when they arrived.
There was an envelope, and nothing else. He started to cry as he picked up the envelope.
The truth devastated him. Amy was diagnosed with terminal cancer. The doctors didn’t give her much time, and that she was trying to deal with that horrible truth in her mind. She wanted to bear the weight alone and didn’t want her family to suffer with her.
She wrote that she wanted to protect them, as she didn’t want her family to see her wither slowly. “I love you both more than life itself, and it’s because I love you that I need to do this.”
“I am at Clear Life Center, a quiet hospice two states away. Please forgive me. With all my love, always, Amy.”
Jack immediately wiped his tears away, packed a bag for himself and Emily and told her that mother was feeling a little sick, and that they are going to visit her.
They directly went to the center Amy wrote in her letter.
There, Amy was lying on her bed, as she was looking fragile, and exhausted. When she saw her husband and daughter, her eyes filled with life. She cried as they hugged each other.
Before Amy passed away, she got the chance to create great memories in her daughter’s mind. She was able to do everything she wished for before her passing. They spent her last weeks together at the life center. Together, as a family.
