A Hollywood star of the past, who once was the “Sexiest Man Alive,” had struggled with addiction and suffered from a personal loss. The actor later made his comeback from his condition.
His career started at the Pasadena Playhouse, and he had his breakthrough after he appeared in “Rich Man, Poor Man.”
He once stated that he started the project at 160 pounds, and then he went over 180 pounds.
When it was 1992, he appeared on the cover of “Sexiest Man Alive,” and people called him a “big-lug Adonis with the heart of gold.”
As he rose to stardom, he struggled from many things, as he struggled with alcohol and drug addiction. Actually, since high school, he was struggling.
His co-star from “The Ultimate Solution of Grace Quigley,” Katharine Hepburn, openly criticised the famous actor for his addiction problems. “I hear you’ve been dead drunk in every gutter in town, and it has to stop,” Hepburn said, and the actor replied, “I can’t stop. I’ve got a few more to go.”
He was arrested for DUI and also, he had the drug, “date rape,” in his system when he was arrested. He went into rehab, and spent hours in a hyperbaric chamber for he needed a repair after the brain damage he received from the drugs he used.
In 2017, he told in his interview that he is able to stop now. “Now I can have a drink and stop, but I used to fill the gaps between adrenaline rushes with booze and drugs.”
And in 2022, the star said, “No. I stopped drinking rather abruptly, and I didn’t even have to fight it. Drinking and smoking just all went away about three or four years ago.”
Nick Nolte had many problems in his life. His Malibu home was burned down after a wildfire hit.
“You feel helpless,” Nolte said in 2018. “I lost all my scripts, the preparation, the clothes from every film I’d ever done. But everybody’s safe. You just have to start over.”
“I don’t understand retirement. I just don’t know what I’d do with myself,” the star said.
