YOUNG MUSICIAN NELL SMITH’S DEMISE
Talented musician Nell Smith was only 17 when she passed away on the 7th of October. She was about to release her first solo record in early 2025.
Bella Union co-owner and record producer, Simon Raymonde posted a heartfelt tribute for Nell as, “We are all shocked and devastated to hear of the sudden and tragic passing of our artist and dear friend Nell Smith, over the weekend in British Columbia.”
“ Nell was just 17 and was preparing for the release of her first solo record in early 2025 on Bella Union, made in Brighton with Penelope Isles’ Jack and Lily Wolter. Her first release was an album of covers of Nick Cave songs recorded with fellow Bella Union artistes The Flaming Lips back in 2021 entitled, “Where The Viaduct Looms”.”
“While we all try and come to terms with the awful news, and out of respect to Nell’s grieving family, we are unable to make any further comments at this time. The Bella Union Family.”
Nell’s family shared, “It pains us so much to say that our feisty, talented, unique, beautiful daughter was cruelly taken from us on Saturday night. We are reeling from the news and don’t know what to do or say.”

MISS TEEN RODEO KANSAS LOST HER LIFE AT THE AGE OF 19
Colby College Community Rodeo Team member, 19-year-old Emma C. Brungart lost her life in the car crash, where five of her friends were left injured.
At a Y intersection on County Road 21, as Kansas Highway Patrol reported, a crash happened, where a car collided into a set of trees.
19-year-old Emma C. Brungart lost her life at the scene, while the driver, an 18-year-old man from Flagler, a 20-year-old woman from Larned, a 19-year-old woman from Newton, a 19-year-old woman from Galva, and an 18-year-old man from Council Grove were injured, and taken to Citizens Medical Center in Colby.
Colby College Community Rodeo Team shared, “Last night her [sic] along with 4 other team members and our work study were involved in a car accident. Unfortunately Emma did not walk away from this. We are praying for all families involved.”
