Pauline was a single mother, who was working as a janitor. Her 8-year-old daughter Eve was the joy of her life, and she was doing everything in her power to make her daughter happy. She lost her husband some years ago after her husband was diagnosed with cancer.
Her daughter’s birthday was arriving, and since Eve wanted a doll, Pauline was saving money. She was not making much, but she could manage without eating lunch few days.
A day before her daughter’s birthday, Pauline went to the flea market and found an old doll. She didn’t examine much, and went back home. The day arrived, and to celebrate her daughter’s birthday Pauline brought a cake, and after her daughter blow the candles, she gave the present.
When Eve opened the box, she jumped with joy, hugged to her mother and pick the doll from the box. As Eve jumped, a crackling sound came from inside of the doll. Pauline listened carefully, and once she was sure, she wanted the doll to check it.
Then she found a secret pocket in the dress of the doll, and a note was in there too. She then went to the flea market on the next day, and talked with the woman who sold the doll.
The woman started to cry, as she revealed that her late daughter bought the doll for her. Pauline hugged the woman, and she talked with her, as she tried to comfort her.
Miriam revealed that her daughter was diagnosed with cancer. And she was selling the items from her home to save money for the chemo treatment. But they couldn’t save their daughter, as she passed away.
After Pauline had seen that Miriam was so sad, she invited her to her house, and meet with her daughter, Eve. Miriam was so happy, she accepted immediately. Once they were at home, they talked, played, cried…
Few days later, Miriam visited Eve and Pauline again. She handed over an envelope as she thanked for the time they spent together. In the envelope, there was $3,000. Pauline said that she can’t accept this but Miriam insisted. “For Eve,” she said.
