THE CERTIFIED AMERICAN HERO, WILLIAM KYLE CARPENTER, WHO JUMPED ON A GRANADE TO SAVE HIS COMRADE

William Kyle Carpenter was 21 when he earned the rank of Lance Corporal. He was sent to Afghanistan in 2010.

As he was in the war, during a firefight, he saved his comrade when he jumped on a grenade without thinking.

In a manner of second, Carpenter was ready to give up on his life to save his friend. He used his body to keep his comrade safe, and away from the harm of the grenade.

As Carpenter suffered terrible injuries, the surgeons took countless shrapnel out of his body and skull. His face was destroyed as he lost a part of his jaw. One of his lungs got collapsed. When he returned to Camp Bastion, he was declared P.E.A., which meant that Kyle was dead on his arrival, but he survived.

He underwent over forty surgeries in two years. He then received the Purple Heart for his courageous act, and then President Barack Obama presented him his Medal of Honor.

May God bless this heroic soldier who kept our country safe!
