Elly was crying while her adoptive mother kicking her out of the house. She looked at her adoptive father, but the man hunched his shoulders, and left it to her mother. Then adoptive mother told Elly that she was a loose woman just like her mother, and shut the door.
While Elly was crying, her adoptive father stepped out, and gave Elly a bag, and some money. He apologized and went back inside.
She was only a baby when she was adopted, and Jordan family raised her along with their four children. They were incredibly religious fanatics, and wouldn’t even celebrate some days because they would think that it was a sin.
Elly was pregnant, and that was the reason why they kicked her out. She had $60 in her pocket, and that was not enough for a place to stay.
While she was on the park, crying, a tall woman approached to her. “Hey girl! Do you need something?”
Elly shook her head, then Momma Mila sat next to her. She told Elly that it was clear something was off, and that she can help.
Elly told Mila that she had no money, no job and a baby to fed. Mila smiled, she offered her a job, a place to stay but she was on her own with her baby. Mila was selling flowers and she was thinking of opening another stand at the other end of the park.
She had a tiny apartment, and a job. After seven months, Elly gave birth to her baby boy, Mike. Mila told her that she can care for her child for three months, and paid her three months’ salary ahead and stated that if she needs help she should call her.
Few weeks had passed. Elly would feed and change Mike’s diaper during the night, but for the last days, Mike was not waking up during the night, or she wouldn’t hear.
She then noticed that the bottle she would fill before the night was empty, and Mike had clean diapers. She thought that she must’ve did it while in her sleep. Then decided not to sleep that night.
As she was waiting in her bed, during the night, Elly heard someone was hushing Mike. She was terrified, and slowly went into Mike’s room. She saw a woman changing Mike’s diapers. She was shocked.
“Get away from my baby!” She screamed. The woman picked up Mike, calmed him down and turned to Elly, “Hello El. I’m Martha, your mother.”
Elly was frozen. She was not scared anymore, she had no idea what to feel. Then Martha told her own story. She told her that her mother wanted her to have an abortion. Martha refused, and kicked out of home.
To return back home, Martha gave up her baby for adoption. When she learned that Elly was kicked out, she sent one of her employees, Mila to her. She was the one who offered her the job, the old house of her mother.
Martha told Elly that she was ashamed to show herself. “I know what you must think of me, especially since you’re keeping your baby… I didn’t mean for you to find out, I just wanted you to get a few good night’s sleep.”
Elly said nothing, instead she rushed towards her mother and hugged. This was more than words.
