Parton and Dean met in 1964, outside the Wishy Washy Laundromat in Nashville, Tennessee. Dean was 21 while Parton was 18 at that time. Dean was struck with love when he first saw Parton.

“My first thought was, ‘I’m gonna marry that girl,’” Carl Thomas Dean shared in one of his interviews. “My second thought was, ‘Lord she’s good lookin’.’ And that was the day my life began. I wouldn’t trade the last 50 years for nothing on this earth.”

They got married in 1966, in Ringgold, Georgia. They kept it private, since Parton’s record label wanted her to wait for marriage for the sake of her career. As the couple didn’t wanted to wait, they chose to tie the knot in silence.

Therefore, Parton wants to spend more time with her beloved husband. “I’ve done that my whole life, and it takes so much time and energy. I like to stay a little closer to home with my husband. We’re getting older now, and I don’t want to be gone for four or five weeks at a time,” the singer shared.

”Something could happen. I would not feel right about that, if I were gone and somebody needed me. Or I would feel bad if I had to leave a tour if somebody got sick at home and needed me and then I had to walk out on the fans.”

“When I got nominated for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, I thought, well, no better time to do it.’ I had always wanted to do it. My husband is a big hard rock ’n’ roll fan, and for years I thought, ‘One of these days I’d like to do an album mainly just for him, just to kind of do it.’”
