Taran Noah Smith was a star name from the 90s, where he was one of the child stars of the industry. He was 16, when he made it to the headlines for marrying an older woman. At 17, he sued his parents for the money he earned. His life changed a lot.
Smith was 16 when he started to a shocking relationship and married Heidi Van Pelt. She was 33 at the time.
“She was 15 years older than me. I knew my parents would not be excited by that, so I told them she was nine years older, the same distance as my parents in age.”
His family tried to intervene, but Smith was in love and he chose love. A year later, he sued them for the control of $1.5 million trust fund.
His mother denied the allegations, and revealed that the money was in a trust fund, and no one can touch it. “Of course we didn’t touch his money. It was in a trust fund. We couldn’t have touched it if we wanted to.”
“They were trying to get it when he was 17, and we were trying to protect it. Luckily, the Marin courts were very good about it,” the mother commented about the wedding of her son.
After few years of marriage, they ended their marriage.
“I was with Heidi for five or six years. At the end of that, I realized I had made a mistake. The funny thing is, that’s when my parents were ready to forgive her and make her part of the family.”
“They told me they wanted to tell me something, but I said, ‘I want to tell you something first — Heidi and I have split up,'” Smith added.
In 2014, Smith went to Philippines, where he voluntarily helped a charity after a typhoon hit the country.
“The other side project I started before I ended up going to the Philippines was a floating art gallery I built that I call The FairWeather Gallery,” Smith said.
“It’s sort of a combination of my heritage. My dad is a boat builder, and my mom studied art history and is much more of an artist, so I’m combining the two in my life.”
He later helped after the Hurricane Harvey, where he worked with engineers. “It is very strange. I’m now doing ‘Tool Time’ for real.”
