George was the owner of the restaurant which was among the finest of restaurants of New York. The restaurant was in their control for generations. George inherited it from his father, as his father inherited it from his grandfather.
George had a manager, Colt, who was looking over everything in the restaurant. He would visit the restaurant in different hours to catch the stuff off guard.
In one of his inspections, he found out that a worker, Cosuelo Ruiz was stealing food from the restaurant. George’s manager, Colt, was letting the Ruiz pick up the leftover food from the kitchen.
The kitchen would be closed at 10:30 p.m., but when George inspected the kitchen at 1:00 p.m., he found Ruiz while she was scraping the leftovers into a bag.
Then he followed Ruiz into a condemned building. He was curious of where she was taking the leftover food.
He then saw Ruiz serving the leftover foods to four children. He was angry. He couldn’t believe what his manager was allowing to.
On the next day, he wanted to talk with Colt. He told to him that he caught Ruiz taking the food, which he ordered to be sent to a shelter.
He told Colt that he was fired because he was abusing immigrant people for they would work much less than what George was giving to Colt for extra workers if they needed.
Then he called Ms. Ruiz in. “I know you’ve been taking scraps home to your children, and I’m here to tell you that it’s over,” George said.
The woman begged as she explained that she had no other option to feed her children. She begged and pleaded.
George calmed Ruiz down, “Which is why you will be getting a salary increase and a work contract.”
George revealed that his grandfather was an immigrant too, and through the help of a kind man, he was able to create the restaurant which became one of the finest in New York.
George smiled at Ruiz, “This is what people are calling the American Dream!”
