Vanessa was a volunteer at a nursing home. She was there both for her resume and that she loved helping people in need. She was had a foster childhood as she was an orphan.
The nursing home was her home too, or she was feeling that way at least. She started to volunteer there for her college at the beginning, but then she stayed in there for she loved it, and she also needed money.
She was 25 now, and still loved what she was doing. One day, while she was doing her usual rounds, she went into 90-year-old Mrs. Coleman’s room.
She was looking towards the window as if she was waiting for something or someone. She then grabbed Vanessa’s hand and said to her, “I know you!”
“I’m sure you do, Mrs. Coleman,” Vanessa said, as it was a common thing for elders in the nursing home confuse the nurses in there with the people they knew.
Then she told Vanessa that she was six of five, and that she was living next door to her. “I know!” she said.
Vanessa couldn’t remember that much past, as she had some foster families.
She then asked that if she does remember. Mrs. Coleman told her that she would come to her home for cookies, and during her birthday, the old lady explained that Vanessa would sing for her.
“I’d never forget your name or those lovely eyes of yours.”
“I don’t really remember, Mrs. Coleman.”
Vanessa was nervous. She was remembering a faded memory from a kitchen, but that was it. A tiny kitchen and a laughing old lady.
Then Vanessa felt like Mrs. Coleman was a part of her life. A part where she doesn’t remember at all. Old lady stated that she would feel lonely, but Vanessa would visit her along with her grandson, Vanessa’s friend, Soren.
Vanessa apologized because she forgot. “Don’t be sorry,” the old lady said. Then Vanessa was moved to another family. Mrs. Coleman tried to learn her new address, but they didn’t give any information.
Vanessa was surprised that Dorothy was care that much. Then she told Vanessa that she saved her with her sweet childish innocence. She helped her to recover from her daughter’s passing along with her grandchild.
“I don’t remember it,” Vanessa said, “thank you for remembering me.”
She started to cry but she didn’t know why she was crying. Each day, Vanessa spent more time with Dorothy. She would tell stories from her childhood. Few weeks later, she passed away.
Dorothy was present in her funeral. She saw Soren, and remembered him. They talked a lot that day. As time passed, their relationship evolved romantically.
When the morning arrived, Vanessa found $650,000 in her bank account, as Dorothy’s lawyer informed her afterwards. She left her an inheritance, as she loved her.
