A mother-of-four from North Carolina, Melissa Hensley Guinn, and her husband Jamie Guinn heard an explosion sound during the hurricane. They then saw that their door was blocked, and found out that their garage was filled with water.
Then their house started to collapse. Jamie then held on to his 8-year-old son River, while their home in Minneapolis, North Carolina was collapsing.
While Jamie was trying to find his son in the wreckage, he saw his wife, which was the last time he saw her alive.
Then a landslide took Melissa. The grieving husband shared, “So I tried to grab my little boy and threw him on my back because I figured it was another slide, and by the time I turned back around to try to make myself alert … she was gone.”
He searched for Melissa desperately, but sadly, he couldn’t find his wife. Jamie left his son in his neighbour’s house, and kept searching while he was suffering a fractured spine and a head injury which got infected later. The grieving man stated that the physical pain was nothing to compare with losing his wife.
“Just going from having that person in your life every day to literally gone in the blink of an eye, it just shows how often you might take for granted being with someone,” Jamie Guinn said.
“She was the absolute greatest mother and wife we could have all even asked for.”
May she rest in peace.
