Jack was hungry for being more successful, despite he was working tirelessly for the past twenty years. He never thought that he was successful. Laura, his wife, had other opinions.
They met at work, but Laura decided to start her own business after they married. Laura was from one of the best business schools in the world, and she received success in a short notice.
Jack never believed that he would be as successful as Laura. She was also coming from a rich background, while Jack had to work for everything.
Jack was insecure against his in-laws, despite Laura said to him that it was all in his head.
One day Laura called jack, and stated that her father had passed away. Jack immediately went back home. In the coming days, Laura told him that his mother should live with them.
When Jack learned that Laura invited her mother without asking him, he went mad. He didn’t want his mother-in-law to stay with them.
“I’m her only child, and she needs my help. She will leave in a few months.”
Jack tried to annoy Melissa once she moved in. He would have fights and arguments with her.
During an online meeting with his boss, Jack learned that he will not receive a promotion. Then he saw Melissa, watching her meeting on the background. That was it. Jack thought that Melissa was spying on him. He wanted her out of the house.
As Jack kept this for hours, Laura asked from her mother to went back to her home in tears. It was the Christmas Eve. Jack was happy. He ordered Laura’s favorite dishes and decorated the house.
As they were having dinner, they heard a car park in the driveway. Then Laura welcomed her mother and a man. When Jack saw the man, he was shocked. The man was his boss, Matt.
“I have known this boy for decades, Jack!” Melissa chuckled. “I used to work as a secretary for his father when he was a kid. I even babysat him a couple of times when his father wasn’t around.”
Then Matt revealed that Melissa spoke highly of Jack, and for that reason he decided to promote Jack. Jack couldn’t believe as he was not expecting his mother-in-law, who he kicked out of home a day before Christmas to help him get promotion.
He apologized as he couldn’t hold his tears back. From that day on, Melissa lived in their house until her passing.
