It has been five years since Josh lost his wife Amy. Their daughter Liza was 13 at the time, and now she was 18.
As Josh checked the calendar, he told Liza that he is going to the cemetery. “It’s that time again, isn’t it, Dad?” Liza asked.
As Josh couldn’t say anything, he left in silence. He went to pick his usual flowers, where the florist started to prepare white roses as soon as she saw Josh.
“White roses. Just like always.” The woman said.
The cemetery was quiet when Josh knelt down his wife’s grave.
“God, I miss you so much.” Josh said as he was touching his wife’s gravestone.
Few hours had passed, and Josh talked to his wife’s grave. It was time to say goodbye once again.
When Josh was at home, his hear skipped a beat as he found white roses in the kitchen. They were the same roses he left on his wife’s grave. There, standing in vase.
He called his daughter, “Liza! Are you home?”
Then she walked downstairs and asked what happened. She was scared when she noticed her father’s pale face.
“Where did these roses come from, Liza? Did you bring these home?”
Liza told her father that she was out with her friends. Josh then explained that the roses he left on her mother’s grave were now standing in the kitchen, in a vase. He then said that he needs to check the cemetery.
When he returned to the cemetery, he couldn’t find the roses he left. “They’re gone. How can they be gone?”
“Let’s go home, Dad. We need to figure this out.”
As they were talking about how could something like this can happen, Josh found a piece of paper under the vase where the roses were standing.
He dropped the paper after he saw his wife, Amy’s handwriting. “I know the truth, and I forgive you. But it’s time for you to face what you’ve hidden.”
As Josh started to cry, Liza asked what was the meaning of the writing.
Josh then revealed that the night Amy passed away in the crash, they had a big fight because she found out that Josh was cheating on her. Liza was shocked.
“It was a mistake, dear. A terrible mistake. I tried to end it, but your mother found out before I could. She was so angry and hurt. She stormed out of the house, got in the car—”
“And never came back,” Liza said with tears on her eyes.
Josh kept it as a secret. “I couldn’t bear for people to know the truth. To know that her death was my fault.”
Then Liza stood up, “I knew, Dad!”
She revealed that she knew what happened as she read her mother’s diary. Amy wrote that she found out her husband’s affair few days ago she passed away, and write how disappointed she was in her diary.
After Liza read that, she wanted to teach a lesson to her father and that she wanted to hear it from her father. She wanted her father to admit it.
As she left the home, there, Josh was alone with the roses. Drowning in guilt.
