Linda Gray’s stardom rose through her role as Sue Ellen Ewing, on the legendary show, “Dallas.” From 1978 to 1991, Gray had gave life the her role.
As her mother was struggling with alcoholism, Gray helped her mother as she gave her the five scripts from the show.
“She then became sober and she went to Betty Ford clinic. It was amazing for both of us because I sat there with her and she realized that she had a problem,” Gray said.
“Getting Dallas was a catalyst for me because it opened so many doors, philosophies, and ideas,” the star actress revealed.
“We had no idea it was going to be successful, so we were like, ‘Oh, here we are, trying the best we can.’”
In 1962, Gray’s marriage with Ed Trasher started. She was in a loveless marriage. “I don’t like the word abusive because he was just living the life he knew how to live,” actress said.
As Gray wanted to keep acting, her husband didn’t let her. “No. You’ll become an actor when the children are in college,” Gray revealed.
“My God, we’re living his dream, but what about mine?” The actress said. “Is that all there is?”
“I was miserable. I thought, if I don’t get out of this marriage, I will die. I went back and forth for months,” Gray wrote in her memoir, “The Road to Happiness Is Always Under Construction.”
She felt that she made a mistake in her honeymoon, which she got married back when she was only 21. “Because we had sex I thought, ‘Oh, now I’m really an adult, a woman,’ but I didn’t feel loved and nurtured,” Gray said.
“It tore me apart but I just thought, ‘Well, I can make this work somehow.'” Gray continued. “It took me 21 years to leave my marriage.”

In 1988, Gray lost her sister at the age of 43, due to breast cancer. “It was mind-boggling that someone could be here one minute and gone the next. It showed me the fragility of life and how fast it can go.”
Her son, Jeff Trasher passed away in 2020, when he was 56. That devastated Linda. When Linda talked about her son, she shared from her social media as, “A celebration of my son Jeff’s life. He was the kindest, funniest, sweetest human being….. he brought the world such love and was loved by everyone! May his journey be a magical one.”
In 2015, Linda talked about being a single woman after her marriage, she said, “A lot of women are content on their own and don’t want a partner. They want their freedom.”
