Jen and Mark had three children, 7-year-old Oliver, 5-year-old Sophie and 3-year-old Max. Mark was working from home while Jen was a stay-at-home mother. Mark’s job was more than enough for them to live decently.
That week, the children decided to act unusually. They were yelling, screaming and running around the house.
Oliver wanted to watch TV, Sophie was singing from a high pitch for she was bored and Max was crying, like every other 3-year-old would.
Jen was trying to calm her children down, because they were making too much noise. There was a total chaos in the house.
Jen looked at her husband from the glass door of his office, and his eyes were telling everything. He needed silence.
Jen then warned her children and told them that their father was working. Children then wanted their daddy to join them for a game, but Jen kept trying to calm them down.
Then Mark left his office. “Can’t you keep them quiet for five minutes?” He asked with a cold look.
Jen pleaded that she is trying to calm them down but they were children, and what they were doing was as natural as breathing. They were discovering life and that was the way for them to do.
But Mark was angry, and he talked terribly. He told Jen, “You’re not even a mother anymore, you’re just a woman!”
As Jen gasped, Mark wanted Jen to leave the house.
He grabbed a suitcase, filled it with some clothes carefully. Her socks, underwears, dresses and pajamas.
“Here,” he said, “your time away from this chaos.”
He then gave his card to her and told her that he booked a hotel two days ago for her, so she could spend some time alone. “Take my card. Go treat yourself. Get a nice meal, and drink something fancy. Get a massage, whatever you need. Just go.”
When Jen was at the hotel, she texted to her husband that she couldn’t believe he kicked her out. Mark then responded that she should trust him and that she needs it. Mark stated that he will handle their kids.
That evening, she called Mark. She asked about their children, and Mark told that they were good and they had a talk about respecting their parents. “I told them that you do everything for us, and it’s time they show you how much they appreciate you.”
Then the truth unfolded. Mark wanted to talk with their children, and show them a way to appreciate their mother with her absence. It was smart, and it worked.
