It was 27 years ago when James left his newborn on the yard of his sister, Elly. She was shocked to find the baby on her yard, and she couldn’t reach to her brother James. Despite she stopped searching him after few years, James never talked with Elly or any other family members in 27 years.
Elly’s husband Carl was also in shock when he saw the baby in his wife’s arms. Carl stated that caring for Tommy was not their responsibility, but he was her nephew. How could she leave him to his fate.
Carl didn’t argue much after he held Tommy. They cared for him many years, and sent him to college.
27 YEARS LATER
Tommy visited aunt Elly for dinner, as he was in town for two days. He was a successful lawyer now. Carl and Elly were proud. Despite she never loved him differently from her own children, Tommy always had his distance towards them.
He never accepted Elly as his mother, because she was his aunt. He always showed his respect and gratitude towards Elly, but she would like to hear him call her “Mom!” at least once.
Then the door got knocked. When Elly opened the door, her heart skipped a beat. James was on the door. It has been 27 years since she last saw her brother, but his mean face was still the same.
As Tommy approached to the door, he asked, “Who is this?”
“This… this is your father,” Elly said in a whisper.
“You’re my father?”
“Yeah, I’m your dad. I had no choice, son! I had to leave you, or you would’ve died. It’s all her fault!”
Then James lied that he sent Elly money for Tommy’s treatment, and that she never gave it back. James then said that after he had enough money, he returned. He wanted to fix things with his son.
Tommy looked at his father, and said that he doesn’t believe a word comes out of his mouth.
“You didn’t send money. You didn’t try to come back. You left me on her doorstep, and she raised me. She’s the only mother I’ve ever known.”
Then he walked towards him as if he wanted to keep him away from Elly. Tommy said that James wasn’t his father, he was just a man who gave up on him.
