Jason was a workaholic. His father taught him to work hard, but he was not a family man. Jason didn’t want to be like his father. After Jason was graduated, he built his company from zero.
At the age of 40, Jason was a millionaire. But it wasn’t enough. He was still working most of the day, and sadly, he is not spending time with his family, like his father.
Jason was married with his high school sweetheart, Emily. They were married for 15 years. They welcomed a daughter, Mia, who was ten.
Jason was saying himself that he was working for his family, but in truth, he was a workaholic. He had money, house, car. The future was bright for his daughter, even if he would stop working.
That day, he came back home late once again, as it was his usual hours. The house was quiet. He called for his wife and daughter. No response.
He saw Emily’s car on the driveway, she wouldn’t leave the house without it. He didn’t receive any message too. He kept searching the grounds.
Then he found Mia’s lunchbox in the kitchen. Inside, there was a note: “If you’re reading this, it’s too late…”
Emily wrote the letter. She was talking about how unresponsive and unattending of a father and husband he become. Emily said in the note that she is taking Mia to her sister’s house, and that she doesn’t know if they return.
Jason didn’t spend any second and rushed to Laura’s house. He rang the doorbell. Laura opened the door and stated that he should go. Jason begged to talk with Emily.
He pleaded and begged but Laura wanted him to go. For three days, Jason was a mess. On the fourth day Emily and Mia returned. From that day on, James started to go to work three days in a week.
He started to prepare breakfast, and would take Mia to school. He would take Emily to dinner or lunch after he left their daughter to school. They started family traditions.
Jason changed. He was not like his father now.
