Betty wanted to bake her granddaughter Mary’s birthday cake. While baking it, she thought that Mary would love the cake. At that moment, her phone got ranged. Her son James was calling her.
He stated that his wife Emily was on her way to help her. Betty lost her joy when she heard that. Emily was overly critical of matters, where she would find something to complain.
When she saw the cake, she went furious. Emily told her how could she baked a cake after they talked. “Don’t you care about her health at all?”
Betty told her that of course she does, but a slice of cake wouldn’t do anything to Mary’s health.
“Are you kidding me? Look at all that sugar! The artificial colors! Betty, this is exactly what we DON’T want Vicki eating!”
“I care about what’s good for her. And this? This is NOT it.”
Emily was screaming at Betty. She wasn’t expecting that much of a reaction from her.
Betty then excused herself to finish the decorations in the living room. When she returned to the kitchen, the cake was not in there. She gasped when Emily told her that she threw it away.
“How could you?” Betty cried.
“Now we can get something healthy for the party. Maybe a fruit platter?”
Then James came in. Emily opened her eyes widely and hissed at Betty to shut her mouth.
Then she decided to tell the truth. After she told what Emily did, James asked to Emily that if his mother was telling the truth.
“I did what I had to do. You know how I feel about sugar and all that stupid—”
“Just… stop. This isn’t about sugar or health or any of that. This is about respect. About love.”
James told Emily that his mother spent hours for their daughter. To make her happy. Emily was shocked when her husband didn’t support her.
As James apologized from his mother, Betty said, “It’s okay, sweetie. I can make another one.”
“Not you mom, you will bake it Emily!”
