model from California, Lauren Wasser, lost her legs back in 2012. She was hospitalized after she had flu symptoms, but in truth, her body was reacting to a shock caused by an infection from a tampon.
The tampon Lauren used caused a bacterial infection and that led to a toxic shock syndrome or TTS. She went into a coma for more than a week, and then the medical staff had no other option to amputate a leg, at the age of 24.
“In a few months, I’m inevitably going to have my other leg amputated. There’s nothing I can do about it. But what I can do is help make sure that this doesn’t happen to others,” Lauren told.
“Considering that the vagina is the most absorbent part of a woman’s body and is a gateway to many of our vital organs, it is crucial that consumers know the reality of what could happen to them,” the model added.
