Nathan and Jane met through their mutual friend. Jane was a social butterfly, while Nathan was the introverted one in their relationship.
Nathan was madly in love, and he always wanted to be with Jane. Jane loved him too and never complained his desire to be with her all the time.
Few months later, Nathan proposed. Jane said the magical three letter word and accepted his proposal. They later planned their wedding and the big day arrived finally.
Nathan was waiting in his black suit at the altar for his bride, where she would walk down the aisle in her white gown. But when Jane started to walk, people gasped. She was wearing a black gown. As if it was a funeral.
“Why are you wearing black? What’s going on?” Nathan asked when Jane was at the altar.
Then Nathan stopped the ceremony. He wanted to know the reason behind this. Jane stated that Nathan’s mother revealed everything. Nathan was confused. “Revealed what?” he asked.
Then Jane stated that Nathan’s mother talked with her about Lauren, Nathan’s best friend. The mother accused Nathan with cheating on Jane, where he was having an affair with Lauren.
Nathan swore that he never cheated on Jane, as he searched for his mother in the crowd, but she was not there. Jane then stated that she knew his secret too. That she accused Nathan for marrying her for her family’s wealth.
“Listen, Jane,” Nathan said. “Let me explain, I—”
“It’s over, Nathan,” Jane said and rushed outside.
Lauren rushed behind Jane. When Nathan stopped her to talk, Lauren intervened. She stated that she knew Nathan for a long time, and that she never saw him look at someone as he is looking at Jane.
Then, Nathan stated that he signed a prenup with her. If he were to marry her for her family’s wealth, why would he insist on a prenup.
He then confessed that he hid his family’s financial struggle, but also he said that his mother is hating him.
“She always has. Years ago, I took a DNA test when I was in college. I found out that my father wasn’t my biological father. When I confronted her, everything fell apart. Dad left us, taking all the money with him.”
It was clear that Nathan’s mother wanted to take revenge from her son for ruining her life. She wasn’t even supposed to be in the wedding, if Jane wouldn’t insist.
“I’m sorry, Jane,” Nathan said. “I know I’ve made mistakes, but I love you.”
But that was too much for Jane. She apologized, and wanted some time to think. She apologized once again, when she called Nathan few weeks later for she wanted to part their ways.
Sadly, Nathan’s mother won the war.
