Mel was 18 when her father gifted her the house she was living in currently. The old two-story building was her now, as it belonged to the family for generations. They were not rich. Her father bought the house for a bargain, from his cousin.
Each floor had its own bathroom and kitchen, so it made the house rentable. She rented the first floor to a woman named Maggie for $500.
Few months ago, Jason, Mel’s boyfriend, moved in with her to the upstairs. As Mel thought that it was unnecessary, she didn’t tell him that she was the owner of the home.
On the other hand, Jason wasn’t giving any money for the rent, and Mel wasn’t asking for it. They were paying equally for the groceries.
One day, Maggie wanted to talk with Mel and told that the freezer was broken. Mel checked it and told her that she will talk with a repairman and fix it.
Maggie thanked and left with a smile.
Jason was surprised as he heard that Mel was going to pay for her neighbour’s freezer. He was shocked when he learned that Mel was the owner of the home.
Things were tense for the next days. Jason was not acting normal. He was distant and cold. She thought that he needed some space, but Jason was not happy because he was thinking that he deserved the half of the rent, as he was living with the homeowner.
Mel couldn’t believe what she just heard. She kicked him out of the house after that. Few days later Jason apologized and wanted to return, but Mel stated that she can’t be with someone who thinks that way.
