Ben was talking about homeschooling during the BBQ party he throw for his friends. He was sharing his thoughts about the matter, and revealed that he wanted his daughter, Lilly, to be homeschooled.
He was talking about how school system is making children focus on tests, and how it was blunting the idea of creativity. Ben explained that he didn’t want his daughter to be an uncreative person. He wanted his daughter to think outside the box.
Everyone at the table agreed with him, as one of their friends shared that her own child was denied to show his creative side in school, and how she is now regretting to send her children into the system.
Jenny was surprised, since she never saw her husband talk about a situation this passionately. They were talking about homeschooling their daughter, but he was never this open about the matter before.
Few days later, Ben decided to have a serious talk with Jenny about homeschooling their daughter, Lilly. He gave Jenny many reasonable points about homeschooling, and in the end, Jenny was convinced.
Ben was the parent who would attend to the school events, and he wanted to be in charge with homeschooling their daughter. Whenever Jenny would return from work, she would find Ben with Lilly.
On that night, Ben showed the solar system model Lilly made to Jenny. She was shocked when she saw what her daughter created.
Few weeks later, Jenny returned earlier than usual. She was going to surprise her daughter with a gift, watercolor paint set. But once she entered, she heard Lilly crying. She was crying about how she misses her friends.
Then she heard Ben talking about sending Lilly’s friends gifts. Then Lilly asked about other gifts her father delivered. Jenny couldn’t understand what they were talking about. As Ben confirmed it, Jenny learned that Ben was not homeschooling Lilly. What was going on? She asked to herself.
Ben was shocked when he saw Jenny in the dining room. Jenny wanted an explanation, as Ben sent Lilly to watch TV, he explained that he lost his job last week. He revealed that he couldn’t afford the tuition, and that was why he insisted about homeschooling.
Since that day, Ben was working as he was delivering packages. In his breaks, he was schooling Lilly, and he would take her with him.
Jenny was angry, but not for Ben losing his job. She was angry because her husband lied to her instead of talking with her. She was aware of the pressure a person would feel when they lose a job.
She assured Ben that he was not alone, and they sent their daughter back to school. In few days, Ben found a new job as he become a manager at a grocery store.
