On the 24th of September, Marcellus “Khaliifah” Williams received the final judgement, as he is executed for the 1998 murder of former newspaper reporter Lisha Gayle.
Despite the plead for mercy from the victim’s own family and the prosecutor who convicted him Williams got executed. They stated that William’s would receive a better judgement with his life spared.
Since he was imprisoned, Williams stated that he was innocent. Later, new prosecutors had decided to support him, as they thought that the original verdict was doubtful.
As it happened, when it was 6:10 p.m., 55-year-old Williams got executed, as he became the third person who got executed in Missouri this year.
“Tonight, we all bear witness to Missouri’s grotesque exercise of state power,” Williams’ attorney Tricia Rojo Bushnell commented.
Imam Jalahii Kacem spent 90 minutes with Williams, before his execution went on. For his final meal, as spokesperson Karen Pojmann shared, Williams wanted chicken wings and tater tots.
Williams’ final words are “All praise be to Allah in every situation.”

Williams’ son, Marcellus Williams Jr. had talked about his father with hope. “All I hope is Allah’s wish to free my father from abundant enslavement and spare his life,” Williams Jr. said. “I would try to make them see that this is a murder on their behalf and this is wrong.”
In 1998, Felicia Gayle was found brutally stabbed 43 times. Her husband Dr. Danial Picus found his wife. There were many clues near Gayle’s body but none of them were directly connected with Williams.
