Doris was a single mother for her son after her husband abandoned them when her son, Nick was seven. Doris was a great mother who fulfilled every need of Nick in his raising. She never believed that her son would do the same when she was sixty.
Nick’s wife Sandra passed away while their daughter, Paige, was nine. Five months later, Nick remarried with Donna.
Doris was concerned about her granddaughter. She believed that her son wouldn’t be a bad father to her granddaughter.
Few days after Paige’s 10th birthday, Nick asked Doris to take care of her while he would take Donna to Alaska for a few weeks. Doris accepted as she thought a lonely time would be good for them.
Paige was having issues with Donna, and some separate time would be good for them both.
Doris then told her son that Nick should be there for his daughter too, as he was a father, and a father should be with his child.
Nick huffed, and left his daughter with his mother. As few weeks passed, Nick haven’t returned. He never called his daughter too. Doris later learned that Nick sold his house too. She then realized that her son was gone for good.
Ten years passed. Nick returned to his mother’s house, but the only house he found was an abandoned building. It was clear that the house wasn’t attended for years.
A neighbor of Doris revealed that Paige was married and took Doris to live in her house. The neighbor was Doris’ best friend, and told Nick that he should be ashamed of himself before she went back inside.
When Nick found Paige’s home, he was shocked because Paige was living in a mansion with her grandmother.
When the maid called Paige for a man was at her door who claimed to be her father, she came to see Nick. She asked with a distant voice what Nick was wanting. He told his daughter that he missed her and his mother. He had a smile on his face.
Then Doris walked in. She as looking calm and younger than she should be looking. Nick was hoping for a warm welcome as he thought his mother and daughter would need him in their lives.
Nick apologized when he realized that his daughter and mother wouldn’t be welcoming as he thought. Nick cried as he told them that he was unemployed and needed help.
Paige told her father that he left her and her grandmother at the time they needed him the most, and now he was expecting help.
“You’re nothing to me,” Paige said when Nick told her that he was her father. But for her grandmother’s sake, she helped Nick. She gave the keys of Doris’ old house and an envelope. In it, there were $5,000.
“Don’t think you’ll get a cent more, so don’t bother coming back.” Paige said before she took her grandma back in the house, while Nick was leaving.
