Deyvion was no more than a little baby when the firefighters saved him from the burning house, where he suffered from terrible burns on his face and body. The terrible house fire happened in Missouri.
A single mother of two, Beth Plunkett, take her in as her foster child when Deyvion was five. He had struggled a lot as he was alone while he was on his recovery journey.
“I thought he was a beautiful little boy, and I fell in love with him very quickly,” Beth shared.
“I feel everybody says, ‘Oh, he’s so lucky to have you and what you’re doing,’ but I’m, I’m just as equally lucky to have him,” Beth continued.
After 7 years of waiting, Deyvion finally got adopted by Beth. “I want him to be, most importantly, just happy,” she said.
“And I want him to always feel loved and to just … to have goals and like, reach them and just do amazing, amazing things. And I know, I know he will … God definitely has an awesome plan for him.”
The firefighters who saved him also became close like a family to him. Deputy Chief Eric Smith of the South Metro Fire Department in Raymore and his crew always remember the night they saved little Deyvion.
“He’s extremely special. We don’t always understand why things happen, but we do now.” Smith said, as his crew celebrated the day Deyvion was adopted by Beth.
