Debra had a son, 10-year-old Jack. She was a single mother where Jack never met his father. Debra was a cleaner and she was working seven days a week. She wanted to give Jack everything she can so she decided not to have any days off.
One day, Jack caught her mother crying on the couch while talking to her friend on the phone. Debra was telling her friend Melly that she was exhausted as she was crying. Debra needed to rest, but she can’t have any days off since she would lose money
Debra said to Melly that she wants to keep Jack happy, but if she takes a day off, she can’t earn enough to care Jack.
Jack blamed himself. He went to his mother’s workplace on the next day after school. When the receptionist greeted Jack, she asked if she should call her mother.
Jack told the woman behind the desk to don’t, he was there to talk with her mother’s boss Mr. Williams.
As the receptionist was surprised, she called her boss, Mr. Williams, and informed the boss about his visitor.
When Jack was greeted by the boss, he felt nervous. Mr. Williams welcomed Jack with a smile and told him to sit on the chair in front of his desk.
“Sir, I’m Jack. My mother, Debra, works here as a cleaner,” Jack explained. He then asked if the boss can allow his mother some paid days off. He revealed that his mother can’t take any days off and needed some time to rest.
Mr. Williams was surprised to hear that. He asked if things at home were difficult.
Jack explained their situation, how his mother is taking care of the home alone, and how he never knew his father. Then Jack heard a little girl’s voice, Mr. Williams’ little daughter.
She told her father that he is the same as her. She told that “Jack only wants to spend time with his mother, the same way I want to spend time with you dad.”
Jack invited Debra to his office on the next day. The boss told Debra that she was fired. Debra was shocked asked for a reason. Mr. Williams told her that she will now work in his home if she would like to.
The boss revealed what Jack told him, and how he would like his mother to stay with him. He explained that he needs someone to take care of his home, and that there is a guest house in his backyard, where Jack and Debra can stay.
The salary she was offered was the triple of what she was currently earning also. As Debra was happy, she directly accepted. Mr. Williams paid a month ahead and told Debra to take a week off with her son.
