Martha barely saw her neighbor Nelly for three years. She would leave the house only for checking the mail or go to the store. She was once pregnant, and then they never saw what her child was looking like in those three years.
Then she talked to her husband about Nelly, and how strange it was to see her outside. She told Evan that the last time she tried to talk to Nelly on the store, she ran away quickly after few short answers.
“Some people just aren’t social butterflies, Martha.” Evan said.
Then they walked outside to play soccer with their boys, and Martha noticed that Nelly’s curtains moved.
Then she made a plan with her other neighbor, Mrs. Freddie. They baked a pie together and went to knock Nelly’s door.
Then Nelly screamed at the old lady, “Go away!”
On the next day, Martha found an envelope for Nelly in her mailbox. As she thought that the mailman mixed the addresses, she had her way to talk with Nelly. She went to her door, and saw something moved on the window. As she looked from the window, she was shocked.
A little boy was looking at her, as he had her husband’s eyes and the same birthmark on his cheek.
Then Nelly realised that Martha saw her boy. “I’m so sorry, Martha. I never meant for this to happen.”
Then Nelly explained what happened. Four years ago she met Evan at the bar, and they ended up spending the night together, and that was it. Later she found out that they were living on the same street, and that she was pregnant with his boy.
She went back to her home with tears. Evan greeted his wife with a smile and tried to hug her. Martha pushed him back, and that moment Evan realized that Martha found out the truth.
After their divorce, Martha sold the house, where she couldn’t live while Evan was living across the street with his other family.
