While Jess was looking out of window on Halloween night, she remembered the times she would walk with her late daughter and ex-husband, John. It was like a distant dream. After losing May, Jess and John couldn’t keep their marriage at hand as they were both depressed.
Jess was living across from a cemetery. For that reason, her rent was cheap too, as people were scared to live in that house. But not Jess.
As she was watching outside, she saw a stroller in the cemetery. There were no parents in sight, and only a stroller, and in it, a crying baby.
As Jess found the baby, there was a note on her, “Amanda, one and a half years old.”
Jess directly went to the police station with Amanda. In a short time, Amanda and Jess built a trust, as it was strange. When the officers told Jess that they would give Amanda to social services, she felt nervous.
She asked that if Amanda can stay with her, and after some background check, the officers accepted. She then called her boss and explained the situation and took some days off work.
She had a wonderful time. She realized that she missed caring for a little girl. The time Jess spent with Amanda was like a medicine.
One morning, her door got knocked. An officer and an old lady were at her door. Amanda’s grandmother, Carol, came to take Amanda back.
While Carol took Amanda back, “Thank you for taking care of her,” she said to Jess. Amanda was crying when Carol picked her up.
Carol gave a basket of fruits to Jess. After they left, Jess was alone once again. She was holding the basket of fruits and the thank you note Carol left her. She then noticed the similarity of the thank you note and the note Jess found on Amanda, when she first found her.
She called her ex-husband, and explained the situation. After weeks of preparations, they were at the court. As Carol was tired, she told that after her daughter passed away, Amanda was left in her care. As she was old, she decided to leave Amanda on her mother’s grave.
After her confession, the court gave the decision. Amanda was handed to Jess. After the court was over, Jess thanked to her ex-husband. She told him that he was a huge help.
John smiled and said to Jess that she can call anything she needs. As he was leaving, Jess stopped him and invited him to dinner to thank properly.
