Lisa was taking her son, Mike, to school. The streets were still making her feel as a stranger. The car was silent, as both Mike and Lisa didn’t talk.
After the school was over, Lisa was there to pick Mike from school. Once she welcomed Mike to the car, her son told Lisa that he made a new friend and met with Sophia.
Lisa was happy that her son was smiling. Mike was constantly talking about Sophia.
Few days later, Mike told Lisa that Sophia invited him over her house to play. But before that, Lisa wanted to talk with Sophia’s parents. As Mike pulled a piece of paper from his pocket, he handed it over to his mother.
Sophia already gave the number of her mother to Mike so his mother would call their home.
Then she texted to Sophia’s mother about the invitation, and Sophia’s mother responded that they would gladly welcome him.
Lisa then asked that if she should bring something on the way, and she received the text, “Maybe some wine, so we moms aren’t too bored!”
On the next day, Lisa and Mike were at the door of Sophie’s house. As Sophie opened the door, the children ran to play inside.
When Sophie’s mother appeared to welcome Lisa, both of the mothers were shocked, as they were each other’s worst enemy. Alice and Lisa were rivals from high school.
“You haven’t changed. Still the plain, boring mouse.” Alice said with a fake smile.
“And you’re still wearing skirts so short, you’re practically giving everyone a show.” Lisa attacked back.
The tension was thick in the house. While their children were playing happily, Lisa and Alive were cold against each other. They were only drinking wine without talking.
When the night was over, Lisa went back to her house with Mike as she didn’t talk to Alice, as Alice did the same.
As Mike and Sophia remained close to one another, Lisa and Alice avoided each other. One day, when Lisa received a call from Mike’s teacher, Miss Terry, she directly went to school.
She found Alice in there too.
Then the teacher revealed that Mike was bullying Sophie.
“What? That’s impossible. They’re friends!” Lisa said.
Then Alice told Lisa that Sophia asked for help many times, and she tried to talk to Mike several times, but that didn’t stop him.
As Lisa couldn’t accept what she was being told, there a fight started between Alice and Lisa, while Miss Terry tried to stop them.
While Lisa was returning home, she couldn’t hold her tears back. She couldn’t believe Alice was still causing her trouble, after her high school memories.
Few days later, Lisa opened the door after it being knocked. When she opened the door, she found Alice. As she couldn’t understand why she was there, Alice said, “I came to apologize.”
“Sophie’s been crying non-stop. She misses Mike. She wants to be friends with him again. I hate seeing her so upset. She’s all I have, Lisa.”
“So, you’re admitting you lied?”
Alice didn’t say anything at first. Then told Lisa that she will talk to Miss Terry about the matter and that she lied.
She apologized once again, as she told her that she was jealous of her once again.
“You were always better than me—smarter, braver. You had a good family. And when I saw how strong you were with Mike, how well you were doing on your own, I couldn’t handle it.”
As she asked for forgiveness, Lisa sighed. She invited her to start over, while drinking wine as adults.
