Jim and Mel’s father, Fred, was a workaholic man. He would think that the only work in the world was his vacation. He wouldn’t count being a mother as a job, which he wouldn’t give the respect his wife, Sally, deserved.
That day, when Fred returned from work, he didn’t say hello to anyone, and directly asked for food.
Sally told him that she was doing the laundry, and that she will prepare it in short time. Fred was angry when he heard that.
Jim and Mel looked at each other. They knew that they should do something.
As the day moved on, Fred kept complained about stuff, whether a nonsense where he thought that should be cleaner, or some organisation in the stuff was wrong for him. He would find things for Sally to fix constantly.
On the next week, Jim and Mel had their plans. Mel was in college break, and that week she was returning back. She bought two tickets, one for herself and one for her mother. Jim kept his father occupied for some time, while Mel and Sally went to Mel’s house in another city.
For few weeks, Fred had to live by himself to learn how to appreciate his wife’s presence at home. Jim was a smart boy. He knew how to handle himself, but Fred struggled with even making scrambled eggs.
As three days passed, Fred called his wife and apologised. He realised how terrible of a husband he was during his time in home, alone. He told Sally that he felt like a little boy who didn’t know what to do.
As Sally had a soft place for her husband, she returned immediately. The children were happy that their father learned his lesson.
From that day on, Fred never complained about anything, and always appreciated that his wife was there for him and helped to her, for whatever she needed.
