Cass knew that her father was a great father for her. He was a busy businessman but he would find time for his daughter. He would call her his angel. Both of her parents would create time for her in their schedule. They would almost every day eat dinner together.
She was 14 and the world was simple. That day, her father went to a business trip. Few hours later, her mother told Cass that her father was dead.
She never knew the way her father passed. When she asked about the funeral, her mother told Cass that Frank wanted to be cremated and have his ashes spread at the beach.
As time passed, Cass learned how to live with that. The father she loved, her father, was now gone. She was not an angel to anyone anymore.
Years passed. Cass arranged a cabin in the woods for a little family vacation with her husband Derek and son Drew. They loved spending time in the woods, but Cass wouldn’t like to sleep in a tent.
They left their dog Romeo in her mother’s home, so they knew that Romeo would be in good hands.
A week after, their vacation was over, they returned back to their home. She found a note on the table when she got inside. On the note, “Watch this, Cassie. I’m sorry,” was written.
She then put the CD into the player, and saw her father. But he was old. Didn’t he die? How he was old? What was happening?
“My little angel, I’m still alive. Please forgive me for the pain I caused. I had to ran away from you to keep you protected from my past. Talk with your mother, she knows everything. I’m afraid this time, I’m truly dying. I want to see you. I love you.”
Without talking to her husband and son, Cass rushed towards her mother’s house.
Then her mother revealed the truth. She told Cass that with Fred, she was not legally married. Later, she found out that Fred had a marriage with a different woman in another state. He was going to his legal family in his so-called business trips.
When she learned the truth, she wanted him to make a choice, and Fred choice his legal family. She then decided to keep this as a secret and told Cass that her father was dead. She thought this would be much better for her to learn that her father chose someone else over them.
“I would have taken the secret to my grave,” Vanessa said. “But knowing that he was ill and wanted to see you just struck something in me.”
A week later, Cass and her family flew over to Fred’s home, where he was under hospice care. They spent time together, and Fred met with his son-in-law and grandson.
He died few days later.
