The musician was born in Timmins, Ontario. She was born into a poor family, who were struggling with maintain simple things in their household. She had four siblings. Her stepfather was working at a low paying reforestation job, while her mother struggled with depression.
She started to sing in bars in her early life and she would love it. She was free of home when she was singing. When she was in her home, she had to be the parent her siblings needed.
She wouldn’t have lunch at school, and when her teachers would ask her, she would say that she forgotten it. She would take her guitar and go into the woods and the music would fill her heart.
As her mother saw her talent, she would take her to bars and the musician would sing. They wouldn’t take her in due to her age, but when she was with her mother, they would allow her to sing.
She worked at McDonalds, which she called it “saving grace.” She was both being paid and filled her stomach.
Despite her stepfather legally adopted her, he was a terrible man who left trauma on the children. He was an abusive man who created a house full of fear and pain.
“I think a lot of that was anger, not courage,” the singer said about the time she threw a chair to her abusive stepfather.
Once she was ten, her stepfather started to sexually abuse the star singer. She kept this as a secret for years, until recently she shared her trauma. Sadly, she never got the chance to confront her abusive stepfather, as he met an untimely end.
She was 22 when her mother and stepfather died in a car accident. She was now alone with her siblings. She was the eldest sister, and she was in charge of them.
She then started to sing in a nearby resort hotel. She was affording a small home, and she would work a lot to care for her siblings.
After her siblings started to grow older, she focused on her career. She recorded a demo, and sent it to record labels. Mercury Nashville signed her, and she released her first album.
After she signed, she then met with a big music producer. The producer then became her husband. Sadly, the singer later diagnosed with Lyme disease, and that affected the nerves in her vocal cords.
She took a break from singing to recover.
Fourteen years after her marriage with Robert “Mutt” Lange, and a son, Eja D’Angelo Lange. Their union ended after a big betrayal.
Her husband and close friend of the star singer, Marie Anne Thiebaud had an affair. That devastated the singer, and ruined her marriage. She was devastated after that terrible experience.
Then, the star singer had an unexpected friend, Frederic Thiebaud, Marie Anne’s husband. They were friends in the beginning, which later it evolved into a romantic relationship.
In 2011, they married.
