The strong Category 3 storm, Hurricane Milton finally reached to Siesta Key in Sarasota County, Florida, on October 9, around 8:30 a.m.
The winds are reaching 120 mph, and torrential rain is hitting to the land. There were more than 1.1 million properties were left with a power outage.
The Florida Division of Emergency Management (FDEM) shared from Facebook that people should “continue to shelter in place & remain vigilant!”
St. Lucie County Sheriff Keith Pearson shared that there were some fatalities at the Spanish Lakes Country Club.
As the number of passings were not told, the search and rescue teams are working in the area. “They are listening for life,” Pearson said.
“We have dozens of homes in St. Lucie County that have been damaged. Some catastrophic damage.” County spokesman Erick Gill said.
More than 125 homes were destroyed by the storm. Governor Ron DeSantis shared that over 116 tornado warnings have been made, and 19 tornados were spotted.
“Our No. 1 goal is life safety,” Sheriff Pearson said.
