After Nia became the general manager of the big fashion retail outlet, in the first week of her being the boss she made some changes.
She gave a binder to each branch as she had some thoughts of how they should act from now on. She wanted everyone follow the new rules she put after her promotion.
“Anybody who fails to follow the new rules — whether it is about uniform, customer greetings, display arrangements, punctuality — will lose their incentive for that month,” Nia concluded.
As time passed, Nia started to act like a dictator in the outlet. She was setting unreachable goals and she wouldn’t take any criticism. She would make hurtful comments, and only care is customers were buying.
One day, she caught a salesperson sleeping, Maya. Nia directly fired Maya. As she was leaving while crying, the 68-year-old janitor, Victor, tried to talk with Nia. He told her that they were aware that she was trying to raise the sales, but that she should let small mistakes go.
Then Nia harshly spoke against the old man. She accused him with tardiness, and being late to work each day.
“Nia, there’s a reason why I’ve been coming later than the others…” But Nia stopped his words, “You’re fired too!”
Both Maya and Victor left the outlet after Nia fired them. But what happened yesterday no one can believe it.
When Nia arrived at the outlet, she was furious when she saw Maya in the store. But before she was able to kick her out once again, she was told that Mr. Gordon, who was the owner of the franchise was visiting and that he was waiting for Nia in her office.
When she went into her office, she was shocked because Victor was there, sitting in her chair. Then Victor revealed the truth. He told her that in his youth he was just like Nia. One day, he lost someone too dear for him. Then he realised that things were not there only for him.
Since that day, Victor was working as the janitor of the store. Then he demoted Nia, to make her learn the true value of her position. A year later, Nia returned to being the manager.
But this time, she was the opposite of her post self.
