It was the 10th year anniversary of Carl and Elly. It supposed to be a big day for them, but Elly felt nothing but frustration, with a fake smile on her face.
Her sister-in-law Anita approached her as she was wearing the gold bracelet Carl gave her to few weeks ago, and praised the evening.
Elly faked a smile towards her and nodded.
Then Carl started to his speech. “Mary, happy anniversary, sweetheart!”
Then he handed over a box to Elly. With excitement, she opened the box and people gasped while Anita laughed. There was a mop in it.
“Oh, Carl! What a lovely gift for your lovely wife!” Anita said while Elly was frozen. When Carl saw the disappointment in Elly’s eyes, he claimed that it was a joke. When Elly asked for her real gift, Carl said, “I… well… it’s a surprise.”
The ten years of love and attention of Elly was in vain. She realised that at that point. For Carl, she was not a wife but a maid. She was devastated.
With the disappointment, Elly walked towards the exit. Carl yelled behind Elly as he tried to stop her. The mop was in her hands. She angrily walked towards Carl’s car, and smashed the windshield.
“Happy anniversary to you too, darling. I hope you enjoy your gift as much as I enjoyed mine.” Elly said then as she threw the mop at Carl’s feet.
At that moment, while Elly was leaving, a pile of construction planks fell from the construction above their home on top of Carl’s car. It was unusable now.
Then Elly decided to divorce him. When she talked about it, Carl refused until Elly gave the house back in his name. Few years ago, for tax evasion, Carl put the house under Elly’s name. Now he wanted it back.
The Karma’s real hit happened now, as Elly had everything in her power. She was alone in her home few months of courts later. She was happy to start her new life.
