On the 7th of October, the talented musician mother of famous late pop icon Whitney Houston, Cissy Houston, passed away in her New Jersey home, at the age of 91. Her daughter-in-law Pat Houston confirmed Cissy’s passing due to Alzheimer’s disease.
Pat Houston stated that Cissy’s family was around her during her passing. “Our hearts are filled with pain and sadness. We loss [sic] the matriarch of our family,” she said.
In the statement, Cissy was called a “a strong and towering figure” who was caring about her family.
“Her more than seven-decade career in music and entertainment will remain at the forefront of our hearts.” Pat said.
Whitney Houston’s ex-husband Bobby Brown paid tribute to Cissy as, “Sending love and blessings to the Houston family on this great loss. May she rest in Peace and Power. The Browns.”
In 2013, Cissy released her own memoir, “Remembering Whitney: My Story of Love, Loss and the Night the Music Stopped,” which she dedicated to Whitney Houston, her late daughter.
“I love my sons, but Nippy was the youngest, and a girl, and she was my heart.”
When Cissy talked about her daughter, she said, “She made a lot of mistakes, but so many people have made mistakes, and haven’t been treated like that — with people talking about them, saying hurtful things that are or aren’t true. I’m just trying to set everyone straight.”
“I don’t think her husband was any good for her. I’ve said it before and I will say it again,” she added.
