Elly and Daniel were brother and sister. Elly was 17, and Daniel was her younger brother. She always felt the different treatment to her brother and herself from her parents. Daniel was the golden boy.
When Daniel grew, they sent Elly to the basement as they stated that Daniel needed his own place.
Elly started to work after her school, and from her part-time job, she started to decorate the basement, and turned it into a real teenager room.
Her aunt Teresa helped her with decorations. When they were finished, Elly made little touches on her own, and she finished the decorating her room with the LED lights she put in her room.
That day, her father wanted to talk with her.
As he saw the decoration she made, he acted weirdly. He wasn’t impressed.
“Elena, if you have money for all this, then you can start contributing to the household.”
Elly was shocked with what she heard from her parents. They first forced her to live in the basement, and now after she fixed the place and turned it into a real room, they demanded rent.
Then Daniel came downstairs. When he saw the LED strips, he asked that if they are strong, and yanked them. The LED’s come down as they left a trail of peeled paint on the wall.
Her father chuckled after that. That devastated Elly.
Few days later, Aunt Teresa brought an interior designer friend, Ava, to their house from her book club.
“Ava, you’ve got to see what my niece has done with the basement. It’s incredible!” Teresa said during dinner.
When Ava saw Elly’s room, she was amazed. “You have a real eye for design. There wasn’t much potential here, but the way you’ve maximized the space, the color choices… it’s really impressive.”
Ava immediately offered job to Elly. She was amazed when she heard Ava’s offer. That meant a scholarship for her college, and a place to stay too. That was what Elly needed.
