In 2021, she talked in an interview of how she became a huge name with the movie. “It’s extraordinary! The fact that people are still seeing the film, talking about the film, having an interest in the film — it’s amazing,” the former actress shared.

She left Hollywood after she received overwhelming fame from the movie. She decided to focus on her personal desires, and projects. She refused many big opportunities in the industry.

“It was just what I really wanted to do,” Allen once said. When her son Nicholas Browne was three, she moved to the countryside of Massachusetts, and focused on her son.

She is living in her post-and-beam barn which was built in 1792. She stated that the property was fitting to her soul. “A relationship with a house is like a relationship with a person,” she said. “You just know it when you come across it.”

As her son Nicholas found a new passion for cooking during their time in the rural area, he later became a chef. Allen had supported her son in every way to fulfil his desire to become a chef.

As Allen left Hollywood, she later studied textile design at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York. She wanted to build her own business.

In 2005, Allen started her business, Karen Allen Fiber Arts. In her store, Allen is designing high-quality cashmere scarves, sweaters, and hats.

“Textiles are my passion — I call them my first ecstasy,” Allen stated about her occasion.
