After months of planning, Emily was now walking down the aisle towards her husband-to-be, Jason. He was walking down the aisle as her father was on her side. Then Jason took Emily’s hand, and praised her look.
Then the priest stated that they should share their vows.
Emily gave a speech about how valuable Jason was for her, and how she is caring for his feelings and the desire of her to grow old together.
People sighed, as there were some crying sounds among the guests. Then it was Jason’s turn, who was smiling at Emily.
Instead of a romantic and promising speech Emily gave, Jason’s vows were full of comedic things and mockery. People laughed as James kept continuing.
“I vow to remind you to pick up your dragging feet when you walk, so we can avoid another trip to the emergency room like that time you tripped over absolutely nothing. And to taste all the burnt lasagna in the world because that’s your signature dish.”
Some guests and the groomsmen were laughing, but Emily didn’t find it funny. “Really?” She whispered, which Jason winked.
When it was time for rings to exchange, Emily doubted that if she was sure to spend the rest of her life with Jason after his terrible vows.
She hesitated to give her hand to him, and then she had a sudden nausea. Then Jason forcedly put the ring on her finger. Then he waited for Emily to put the ring on his finger.
Emily did so as she felt nothing. He kissed her when the priest said, but again, there were no feelings.
She asked “What was that?” about Jason’s vows. “They were insensitive and embarrassing.”
“No! They were cute!” he said. “I kept them true to us.”
Then he told her that she forced her to marriage which Emily was shocked. Before the formalities started, Emily went to her mother’s table, and stated that she wasn’t feeling good.
She then explained what Jason did was not right for her. Her mother tried to comfort her. “You know how Jason can be sometimes.”
Through the wedding, Jason kept talking nonsense. He was constantly mocking Emily. Then Robert, her father-in-law started to talk.
“Jason, do you know what makes a marriage work, son?”
“Uh, love? Attraction? Chemistry?”
“It’s respect,” he continued. “It’s about cherishing your partner and never making them feel small or embarrassed. Today, you turned your vows into a series of jokes at Emily’s expense. That was not only inappropriate but also deeply hurtful.”
Then Robert started to mock his son, as he made fun of him for half an hour. Jason was so embarrassed that he started to cry, while people were laughing at him.
In the end, Jason realised what he did, and apologized from his wife. Then their real wedding started.
