Sally studied for years and she tears during those studies to save lives. No matter who she needs to attend to, she was a sworn life saver.
She was on her ER rotation, and was resting after a long day in her office. Then an ambulance rushed in. They called code red and Sally rushed in.
The woman was homeless, and there was no identification on her too. She was alone. But she had critical injuries which she needed to perform a surgery. She jeopardized her career and decided to save the woman’s life.
The hospital had a policy, if you didn’t have insurance, major surgeries were off the table unless someone would pay for the surgery.
The woman losing a lot of blood, and she needed an immediate surgery. It took hours. Sally was able to save the woman after 7 hours of surgery. She should be happy that she saved a life, but she wasn’t. She was afraid of chief doctor’s response once he would hear what happened.
She then went to on-call room to rest a while, where she fell asleep. Then Harris barged in. Sally woke up with a jump. The whole hospital was silent. “Thousands of dollars, time, and resources spent on a woman who cannot pay a single cent back!” He yelled.
Sally responded that she saved a life, and Dr. Harris laughed. “No!” he said, “You’re fired!”
It was over. Sally went back home in tears. She saved a life, and in return she was fired. But she knew that from the beginning. She was aware of the consequences.
On the next morning, she was called by the assistant of Harris. He wanted Sally to return urgently. Sally asked for a reason but the assistant didn’t say anything.
When Sally went to the hospital, he found Harris in his room with red eyes. He was crying for hours. It was clear.
He apologized as he kept saying, “You saved her…” Over and over again.
Then he revealed, “You saved my mother.”
