Madison was in her hospital room while she was holding her newborn son in her arms. Her parents were in the room, as they were happily watching their grandson.
They asked his name with excitement. But when they heard the name “Ethan,” the air in the room turned into nervous, from happiness.
Her mother murmured something and left the room as she stated that she needed some air. “That’s… that’s wonderful, honey,” her father said.
As it was weird for Madison, she asked what happened to her father. Her father stated that it had nothing to do with newborn’s name, and that she was emotional. He left then as he stated that they would visit in a few days.
As Madison took her baby to her home, she called her husband Nick, who was in deployment for six months. She thought about calling her mother to learn the reason of her panicking but she decided not to.
She then called her sister and invited her to talk about the situation. Then Emily revealed once she was there that their parents had fought over the name, “Ethan.” Madison couldn’t understand why.
Then Emily explained that their father had an affair ten years ago with a colleague, and the woman had a son from that affair. The name of that boy was Ethan.
Madison gasped. She never thought of that as she had no idea. The reason why Nick and Madison named their son Ethan was to honour Nick’s late grandfather, who raised Nick.
On the next day her father visited Madison. He didn’t talk long as he wanted Madison to change Ethan’s name. He begged as Madison told him that he shouldn’t have an affair, there wouldn’t be a problem.
“I can’t lose her. Not over this.” Her father insisted.
“Over this? You mean over your mistake? Why should my son pay for what you did?” Madison responded.
As her father kept talking none sense, as if he had no guilt in it, Emily stopped him. “Dad, you need to leave. Now. This is your mess to clean up, not Maddie’s. She just had a baby, who is sleeping in the next room, for pity’s sake!”
Then Emily’s mother came. She stated that she doesn’t want her to change her grandson’s name. She stated that she couldn’t stand her father. Jacqueline revealed that they will have a divorce.
They gasped, but deep down, they felt that this was the true move, rather than changing Ethan’s name.
