David was nervously waiting at the hospital while his wife was giving birth. His brother laughed, as he stated that he should relax a little bit.
As the doctor left the room, the whole world went silent for David, as he learned that a complication happened, and it costed the lives of his wife and newborn daughter.
David was frozen. He couldn’t speak, he couldn’t move. He just stood there while his brother Jack tried to comfort him. When he tried to walk, he collapsed.
For days, David stayed in the bed. Everyone forget about what happened after they buried Rita and the baby, but for David, nothing was gone.
One day, he thought to fill the hole in his soul with love, not grief. He then called the social services and stated that he would like to foster a child. The worker stated that single parents are not usual, but they would try to help.
David explained that he was not poor, and he had a good life with good options. He had money, a big house and a big heart.
Then the social worker asked that if David would be interested with fostering a child with special needs. “All children are special, they all have needs,” David responded.
Then the social worker revealed Sam, who was born with Down syndrome, and been through four different foster families. Sam had some health issues too, but Dave stated that he can take care of him.
When they met for the first time, David loved the kid. Sam was a shy and cute little boy. In David’s eyes, Sam was perfect.
Years passed, and Sam was growing up with the love of David. Sam would find friends wherever they would go. He was a great boy, and he had many friends. Almost each day, a parent would invite Sam to a sleepover with the request of their children.
When Sam was 12, David received a call from a man. The man explained that he was a lawyer, and that he was calling David in the name of Sam’s biological parent. As David met with the lawyer, he received a letter.
In the letter, the biological father of Sam stated that he is grateful that he cared for Sam, as he expressed his sadness over not being able to care for him. The father revealed that they knew that Sam had Down syndrome before he was born, but it made no difference.
As they were returning from the doctor’s office, they had a car crash, and his wife, Sam’s mother lost her life. The father revealed that he was paralysed. The doctors saved Sam unharmed, but he went under social services care.
The father wanted David to tell Sam that his biological parents loved him, and always wanted him. But the fate intervened and they couldn’t. He also revealed that he raised a trust fund for Sam, which the lawyer will inform David. He thanked, and wanted to apologize to Sam, for not being able the father David was for him.
The lawyer then revealed that Sam inherited $1.2 million. The money was more than enough to secure Sam’s future. David and Sam started a charity with the money, since David was already a financially strong man.
They helped children with special needs.
