Emma was divorced from her ex-husband, Ben, where they spent 13 years together. They welcomed two children together. Even after their divorce, they stayed as co-parents.
Their friendship stayed in them after their divorce. Recently, they celebrated the 16th birthday party of their eldest. At the party, Ben introduced Lisa, his girlfriend who is he seriously together with.
Lisa was friendly. And as she tried to leave a good impact on the family, Emma tried her best too. She was kind, and attentive with the conversation of Emma’s children. She appreciated the effort Lisa was putting in to be good with her children.
During the party, Ben gave a birthday card to Emma, which was surprising since Ben was not great with anniversaries and other important dates. Emma’s birthday was weeks ago. Then she noticed that Lisa was funnily looking at her.
Then she asked if Ben had problems with birthdays, or he was doing it intentionally. They laughed and Emma explained that he was just who he is.
After the party, and people left, Lisa texted Emma. She apologized if she was disturbing her and that she took her number from ben. She wanted to ask a question to Emma.
It was a question about Ben’s forgetfulness about anniversaries and birthdays. And she also asked that if it affected her in her decision to divorce.
Emma was shocked, and she responded that she doesn’t know if he would change or not, but it was something that they should solve together. She ended her text with, “Lovely meeting you, though.”
Few weeks later Ben called Emma and revealed that Lisa left him after they had an argument over important dates and anniversaries. He told her that he forgot their anniversary, but he couldn’t understand the fuss about it since he didn’t care for these dates.
Emma asked that if Lisa told him that if she is giving importance to those dates, and Ben said yes. But it was a dumb thing to break up over for him. He told that “You never made it a big deal.”
Then Emma laughed as she stated, “Well, sir, and that’s why we divorced.”
Few days later she bumped into Lisa at the store. They talked about the situation. As they parted their ways, Emma decided to talk with her children. She told them that their father loves them, but celebrating birthdays or other days was not the way he is showing his love.
