The icon from the 70s, 79-year-old Rita Coolidge was a big name back in time. She rose to stardom in 60s, after she moved to Memphis. There, she worked as a backup vocalist for Delaney and Bonnie Bramlett.
She married Kris Kristofferson in 1973, which was a boost for her career. Music industry talked about them, as both of them were incredibly talented artists. Together, they won two Grammys for “From the Bottle to the Bottom” and “Lover Please.”
On the other hand, the couple struggled with each other in their private life. They met on a plane, and it was love at first sight. “Before we went to sleep that night we’d picked out a name for our first child. There was no doubt in my mind that we were going to be together,” Rita said.
After Kristofferson started acting, people accused Coolidge with holding him back. As Rita denied this rumors, she said, “When Kris and I were doing concerts, he didn’t have hit records. I did. We were equal in our jobs and in our relationship.”
“He might feel that I was abusive to him. I don’t think I was. It was not all the time. It was just enough that I cried every day, and that’s not a good way to live.”
They welcomed their daughter Casey, and sadly lose their second child. In 1980 the couple decided to finish their union.
“I didn’t feel I was doing her any favors by going the distance when clearly her parents were not in harmony,” Coolridge said.
“Kris and I have a connection and we laugh at stuff that nobody else gets. We just have a bond that is beyond any kind of understanding.” Iconic singer shared in 2016.
