Lewis was 83, and he was sure that his final days were coming closer. He built a life after working hard, and now he was sitting on his leather chair.
For 40 years, he worked for his business, and made his name known. He was not a greedy man, as he had donated a lot and helped people. He created his own family. He welcomed four biological, and four adopted children.
After his children grew up, things started to change. His children would rarely visit him, and let visiting go, they wouldn’t even call him. They would tell him that working is not leaving them any time to visit him.
But they would find time to ask for money. His grandchildren were not that different too. Unless they needed money, they wouldn’t call their gramps. Nonetheless, he would love his family.
But his final days were coming. He received the diagnosis a week ago about the lifespan his doctor gave, a month. He welcomed the diagnosis with dignity. He had seen a lot, and was ready to meet his end.
He talked with his family a week after he received the news. They filled his house after they learned the situation. They acted as if they were devoted children. They were underestimating him. He was aware of the situation, his children were here because they were after his money.
He passed away peacefully in his sleep. His children directly called Lewis’ lawyer. They were all expecting a lot for themselves.
Then Mr. Alaric, the family lawyer came into the house along with a little girl. She walked quietly next to the lawyer. The family questioned the identity of the little girl.
Then Mr. Alaric revealed that the name of the girl was Harper, and she was there for the reading of the will. The family was confused, and nervous.
The lawyer then revealed that Harper was the owner of all of Lewis’ wealth. The family couldn’t believe their ears. Then the lawyer read the letter from Lewis. The old man revealed that his family let him down, and only communicated with him for his wealth.
But Harper was there with him when he was sitting on his porch alone, in pain, and sadness. Then the man revealed in his letter that Harper deserved his money more than his family.
